Hiking in the Elgin Valley
Diepklowe Farm has a number of jeep tracks and paths up the valleys, through the indigenous forests and to the top of the surrounding hills and mountains for wonderful views across the surrounding countryside, sunsets and moonrises. Walks and hikes on offer vary in difficulty, from gentle nature walks to more adventurous hikes, such as the Verreaux's trail. For guided tours in the surrounding mountains and through the farmlands of the Elgin Valley, see the Green Mountain Trail, slack-packing option, which we host a portion of.
The recently created Verreaux's Trail was formed in conjunction with Cape Nature, WWF, The Table Mountain Fund, Conservation at Work and Diepklowe Private Nature Reserve. Day visitors are welcome to hike the trail for a fee of R50.
Contact us for information of longer day hikes in the surrounding area.
Green Mountain Trail
During Spring and Autumn season, Porcupine Hills and Wildekrans Country House combine to host the Green Mountain Trail slack-packing groups by offering luxury accommodation and meals for the guests. The route traverses through the Groenlandberg which offers beautiful fynbos vegetation and walks through the orchards further down the valley with routes ranging between 11km-18km per day.
